Katherine is 330km south of Darwin. After the devastating floods of 1998, Katherine has been rebuilt and is now a major stopping off point to all Northern Australian destinations.
Katherine’s best known feature is Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk); a towering escarpment, spectacular scenery, water birds and freshwater crocodiles which can all be seen by taking a cruise on the Gorge.
For the more energetic canoes can be hired, where paddling the gorges is a rewarding experience. Bush walking and hikes of 3 – 10 days are also available.
Distance from Katherine to Kununurra is 480km.
